SEP 3: Entering the Kingdom

Photo and design © 2016 Lynn Rutledge

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.

Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit...You must be born again.

Matt. 7:13-14, Mark 10:15, John 3:5,7, NIV

AUG 28: Hope in the Lord

Put your hope in the Lord.
For there is faithful love with the Lord,
and with him is redemption in abundance.

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction.

The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

The world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does God's will remains forever.

Always fear the Lord.
For then you will have a future,
and your hope will never fade.

Ps. 130:7, Rom. 12:12, 1 John 2:8, 1 John 2:17, Prov. 23:17-18 HCSB

Come, follow me.

Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

Whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Rejoice in hope.

Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

By him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.

And in him all things hold together.

He upholds the universe by the word of his power.

John 1: 1, Col. 1:16, Col. 1:17, Heb. 1:3, ESV

Excerpt from the July 18 page in the all-scripture devotional, Light for Each Day, Vol. 2.

JUN 29: A Man's Plans and the Lord's Will

The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Prov. 16:9, Prov. 19:21, ESV

JUN 26: Our Hope of Glory

Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

We groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God.

Rom.8:18, Rom. 8:23, 1 John 3:2, 1 Tim. 4:10, NIV

This is part of the June 26 all-Bible devotional in Light for Each Day, Vol. 1.

JUN 22: Trees Planted by the Lord

Photo and design © 2016 Lynn Rutledge

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.

The godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.

Jeremiah 17:7-8, Psalm 92:12-13, NLT

These verses are part of the June 22 all-Bible devotional in Light for Each Day, Vol. 1.

JUN 18: My Relationship With You

Photo and design © 2015 Lynn Rutledge

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. . . Apart from me you can do nothing.

Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love.

John 15:5, John 15:4-5, John 15:9-10, ESV

JUN 12: Blessed Are the Meek

Photo and design © 2015 Lynn Rutledge

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

With righteousness [Jesus] shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.

In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

Matt. 5:5, Isaiah 11:4, Psalm 37:10-11, ESV

JUN 8: The Lord Almighty Is With Us

Our help is in the name of the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

The Lord loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.

He will be our guide even to the end.

The Lord Almighty is with us
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Ps. 124:8, Ps. 37:28, Ps. 48:14, Ps. 46:7, NIV
